![]() He has a small red pen in his coat pocket. He wears a lab coat, glasses, and the Demon Crown. Cave Story 3D provides the perfect blend of action and adventure that embodies the days when Jason was the kid with a mutated frog and an awesome tank and not the kid that wandered away from his Dad and got lost in a mall. The Doctor is a tall, bespectacled man with tan skin and green hair. If you’ve played it before, there are a few new things of interest, but probably enough to pull you back in unless you are dying to play it in 3D. It’s catchy without being annoying and varied enough to give each area its own flavor.īetween the spot-on controls (I recommend using the thumbpad instead of the d-pad), charming characters and nostalgic presentation, Cave Story 3D is easy to recommend. The music deserves a place in the midi hall of fame alongside classic Mega Man, Legend of Zelda and Castlevania tracks. I kept the 3D on the entire time I played because it was just that good. The visuals are fantastic in 2D but truly shine in 3D, in a way that most other 3DS games are simply unable to match. ![]() In terms of presentation, the game exemplifies the best of the 8-bit era. There are darker undertones that manage to blend well with the more lighthearted moments. The story manages to feature the silly dialog of the 8-bit era while remaining narratively engaging. I won’t spoil the joke, but for those that watched a lot of Saturday morning cartoons (and the commercials) in the 80s, Balrog’s catch phrase will elicit no less than a chuckle.Īs you progress, more and more secrets will be uncovered and you’ll likely develop a connection to your character and those he meets. Throughout the game you’ll meet interesting characters and learn about the plight that the bunny-like Mimigas face at the hands of the Doctor (no awesome scarves, bowties or fezzes here) and his henchmen Balrog and Misery, the Bebop and Rocksteady to his Shredder. You’ll spend time farming weapon power after each boss battle to get yourself back up to full strength, but it never takes too long. The mechanic is a great one, though, making for intense boss battles that only get more difficult with each hit. This is one instance where some guidance would have been useful as it isn’t immediately clear that taking damage saps your weapon power. Unfortunately, this mentality does obfuscate one of the game’s core mechanics.Īs you acquire new weapons, each of which is upgradable by collecting glowing triangles, you’ll occasionally find that the weapon power drops. You learn to pick up health canisters because there is one right in your path rather than a tutorial message. Either way, you’ll be mysteriously dropped into the cave without any of the handholding that spoils today’s gamers. ![]() At the outset, you can choose to play with the updated sprites or the original ones, though the game doesn’t go out of its way to make the difference in those choice clear to you. Thankfully, you won’t need to blow on any cartridges in order to enjoy NIS’s gem.Ĭave Story 3D isn’t the first time you’ve had a chance to play this charming adventure, but it is the definitive version. Cave Story 3D doesn’t just play on your nostalgia, it wraps itself up in it and reminds you of all of the great things that happened on Nintendo’s blocky grey console. If you were to put Cave Story 3D in front of gamers that lived through the 8-bit era and told them it appeared on the original NES (just not in North America), you would have them fooled until they realized there was no frame rate drop when the screen filled with baddies and bullets. Old school in everything but the frame rate drops.

![]() Two full size cots fits but then is cramped, only do this occasionally with camping with family. Space inside great for one, holds full size cot and a camp chair to be my little office, great for week long summer camp. Bought a Eureka because the boys' outfitter tents ($300+) were so well built. Owned for 1 year, used monthly for camping with Boy Scouts. But if you can't find this in off-season, I highly recommend you pay full price because this one is so worth it. After camping season, that's the time to look for your tent, especially if you are a beginner. I believe that I bought it at a discount because I did buy this one "off season". The only way this tent could be improved is if they made it in my favorite color!įor myself, many years ago, I purchased the tent at the Sports Authority store out in Long Island, NY, USA. It's so roomy indoors that you can practically set up a cloth barrier inside to make the two areas private areas in the tent. So when you are camping out with the kids or with the grandkids or with all of them, you will have enough space to relax. Yes, you can set this one up without reading directions. The tent is nice, cool, comfortable and easy to set up. Yes, alone out in the woods or in the state parks or in the national parks. When I was using this tent, I was doing solo camping. (The only other choice I have is the popup tent with the six foot ceiling - that's in another review). For real, I've camped practically across country and this is the one tent that I would like to have with me all the time. "Is it really that far fetched that a mechanical genius such as Dr. "I can't prove that I have anything to do with a creature that purple whats-it." Eggman said, narrowing his eyes. "So, Egghead, why were your dunderbots chasing that little purple dude yesterday?" Sonic asked, drawing his attention to the group. "Just going to pick up some delicious arugula and get back to the lair to wait out the 48 hours." Eggman said as he picked up some arugula. "How hard can that be? I just not have to get angry for two days! Easy peasy!" "Says here the affects of purple rays wear off if one can last 48 hours of transformation." He put the book down and grinned. "If you can't trust comic books for record representations of science, who CAN you trust?" Cubot asked.Įggman hummed as he flipped though his book of notes. "I followed the unenviable clunk's original story to the letter! But it just turned me into some sort of.B-level cereal mascot!" Eggman turned and watched a recording of Orbot and Cubot chasing after the creature Orbot mentioned.Įggman stood up and pressed pause, staring at the cute creature. "After exposing yourself to purple rays, you became agitated, which caused you to morph into an adorable creature of some kind." He motioned to the screen. "What happens in Casino Night Zone, stays in Casino Night zone!" Cubot said cheerfully. "What happened last night? I can't remember a thing! Just like my weekend in Casino Night Zone." "Now that's something you don't see every day." Penny hummed.Įggman groaned, sitting up. Orbot and Cubot chased it around a few times until they actually caught it. But what in the world is that?" She asked, pointing to the purple creature. She nodded, and the hedgehog pulled her to her feet. "You okay?" Sonic asked, surprised, reaching down to help her out. She let out a yelp as a creature nocked her to the ground. "I am getting sick of this." Penny grumbled, standing up. "That's just a plate of shredded ice burg lettuce." Amy said, narrowing her eyes at him. "Leaves." Penny mumbled, picking one up with her hand. "One Meh Salad." Dave said in boredom, handing the team a plate of. Penny sat in a table at Meh Burger along with Sonic and friends, ordering lunch. The creature laughed and ran out the lair, followed closely by Orbot and Cubot. He punched the machine a few times until his body started to change, and he turned into an adorable purple little creature of some sort. Lousy piece of junk didn't work!" He ran up and banged the machine with his foot, grunting. The machine fired purple rays at him, and Eggman cackled, waiting for the moment of power to arrive.Įggman narrowed his eyes. So stand back! I don't wanna share my awesome new powers with you losers!"Įggman stood in front of the machine and pressed a button on his wrist controller. "I'm about to expose myself to dangerous purple rays. "Finally, somebody put it in terms I can understand!"Įggman finished the last repairs on his invention and turned to the bots. Struck by absorbedly dangerous levels of purple rays, he became, the unenviable clunk!"Įggman grinned, picking up the comic. "Bruce Bandicoot was just a timid scientist. Another "To be continued." If I had a comic I'd never end it like that." He tossed it at Eggman's table and walked off, followed close by Penny.Įggman took the comic and read. "It's like a million types of mutations! And these textbooks aren't very helpful in the subject of which one you should intentionally inflict upon yourself."Įggman turned around to see Sonic walking with Penny, the human girl noticing a frown on the hedgehog's face as he read his comic book. "Hah! In your buck-tone face, BEAVER!"Īfter pulling some books down, Eggman frowned. People don't usually do nice things for me, not sure why." He turned to Fastidious and held the card up, laughing. "You can use my library card, I betcha!"Įggman took the card and smiled. "That's preposterous! I've never heard of that book! Even if I had read it, who would believe that Eloise would leave one Pablo for a mysterious billionaire?"Įggman glanced down to see Beth giving him one of the sweetest smiles, holding out her card. The people in the library let out snorts of laughter.Įggman narrowed his eyes. It says here you never returned a copy of, "Savage Passions, Wakkayanna Heat." "Actually, according to our records, your library card has been revoked. Fastidious glanced up from his laptop after scanning Eggman's card with a frown. "I'm looking for some books on bio technology." Eggman told Fastidious Beaver in the library. "Uh, how are you going to do that, boss?" Cubot asked. "If I'm going to destroy Sonic once and for all, I'm gonna need physical abilities of my own." Eggman frowned as he watched his past failures on the screen in his lair. |
